Mike Lynch, owner of Associate Roofing, is a resident of Martha's Vineyard. He and his company have done projects all over New England. "From skyscrapers to birdhouses, there's not a roof we haven't done." He understands the unique complexities of island roofing projects and coastal construction. And he values the importance of relationships. "When you call Associate Roofing, you always get a live person on the phone. That's where the relationship starts. We aim to be your roofer for life.”

Mike's first commercial roofing job on the island was the Vineyard Harbor Motel. It was a complete replacement of the EPDM roofing system, decking, gutters and downspouts. That was soon followed by many intricate historical restoration projects including Santander Bank, the Old Whaling Church, and Union Chapel Church, just to name a few. Associate Roofing takes great care to honor historic architecture, match materials, pull all necessary permits, and work efficiently to cause as little disruption as possible. In addition to historic and commercial projects, Associate Roofing has replaced and repaired roofs for many high-end homes with custom cedar shingles, copper features, and more.
"You need to make those roofs bulletproof. Part-time residents can't afford failures. Nobody can. So we ensure their roofs withstand the salt air and windy, nasty weather patterns we get here on the island."
"Associate Roofing did a beautiful roofing job on my seasonal rental cottage. Mike Lynch was a pleasure to do business with and I fully trust his contracting expertise The crew cleaned up very well after the work was done. I look forward to using Associate Roofing in the future for more home projects!" Jillian, Chilmark
“We had the roof of our Martha’s Vineyard home replaced by Associate Roofing. Our experience began with a meeting with the owner, Mike Lynch. He came to our home, assessed the situation, gave us a fair price, and set a date for installation. His crew showed up on the expected date and time, a sometimes-unique experience on an island where appointment times are a flexible commodity. They performed the work in one day. The new roof included a new skylight. It is important to note that the roof is very steep and required skill and dexterity. The work was completed quickly and flawlessly. Neighbors have remarked on how nice the new roof is.” Thomas and Linda, Edgartown
Associate Roofing installs durable materials and focuses on complete roofing systems, not just shingles. Unfortunately, not all roofers are as experienced or detail oriented as Associate Roofing, and mistakes get made. The lowest bid is typically not the right choice. "You pay peanuts, you get monkeys."
That's why Associate Roofing was called to fix issues with a roof replacement at Santander Bank in Tisbury. The contractor initially hired to fix the roof (not Associate Roofing) damaged the building's 100-year-old red Italian barrel tiles when attempting to install new underlayment. That contractor then replaced those tiles with flat red asphalt shingles, violating historic restoration regulations. The historic commissions on the island determined that the new roof needed to be replaced with materials to replicate the original aesthetic. Associate Roofing was called in and Mike Lynch found the right match with custom-made Ludowici tiles. “I took a special interest in this job. It’s ridiculous that they removed those tiles and replaced them with flat red shingles. It’s a beautiful building.”
Finding the right tile wasn't the only challenge; the tile had to be carefully measured and installed. "This kind of installation isn't like slapping shingles on a roof, it's more like putting a big puzzle together.” The situation was made even more complex by the age and poor condition of the underlying roof, as well as its pitch.
"Mike and his team installed the materials expertly, even repairing ridgelines and other intricate features. He had the knowledge and experience to accurately repair the roof and install the tiles, so they reflected the historic character of the building." Adam Turner, Executive Director of Martha’s Vineyard Commission
Associate Roofing is a full-time, professional roofing company that provides training and benefits to its staff. Mike stands by his grandfather’s tradition of honest hard work and commitment to quality craftsmanship to build roofs that will last. He admits they're not the cheapest, but they are the best. "It's not the price of the roof, it's the cost of what it'll take to keep water out of your house if you go with someone else."
When it comes to choosing a Martha’s Vineyard roofing contractor, it’s important to choose one with the experience and knowledge to get the job done right, and who will stand behind their work for years to come. Associate Roofing is a MA licensed and insured roofer and general contractor. They are DCAM-approved to work on schools, town halls, and municipal buildings. Mike Lynch is a third-generation roofer who is dedicated, qualified, and committed. "Other roofers come and go. From 1975 to now, we guarantee quality and reliability. We're here for the life of your roof."
